What is ‘fairness’ and why it matters in the U.S. election?

The Fairness Doctrine has been the subject of controversy for years.
It’s a federal law that requires that federal agencies “provide equal opportunity for participation by employees and applicants of Federal, State, and local government agencies.”
The law is aimed at protecting people of color from discrimination.
However, in recent years, it has come under attack from conservative lawmakers and a growing number of businesses, including many tech companies.
In 2017, a bill that would have codified the Fairness doctrine in federal law was blocked by President Donald Trump, leading to calls for it to be scrapped altogether.
The new bill, which is expected to be unveiled by House Speaker Paul Ryan this week, would require that federal agency employees “have a fair opportunity to receive and engage in all types of employment opportunities,” including those based on race, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, and veteran status.
Under the proposed legislation, an agency could not discriminate against any individual or group because of their race, color, national or ethnic origin, sex, gender, age or veteran status, or because of disability.
“Fairness” is an increasingly loaded word in American politics, with many Republicans, especially the president, pushing for an expansion of the Fair Pay Act of 1938, which was passed by Congress in 1935.
The Fair Pay law prohibited employers from making discriminatory employment practices, including race, gender and sexual orientation.
But the law was criticized for its expansive definition of discrimination, which covered almost everything from how to define the term to how it applied to sexual orientation and disability.
Critics have said the Fair Wage Act did not adequately protect women and people of Color from discrimination in the workplace.
On Monday, the president said in a tweet that he would sign the bill into law.
“The Fair Pay act is one of the strongest in the world.
The Trump Administration will pass it,” he wrote.
“This will end the #MeToo movement.
It will protect the right to work for equal pay for equal work.
I will sign it into law!”
The bill is expected at the end of the year.
“We are proud to be the #1 employer in America for women and men of color,” Trump said in the tweet.
