NFL Week 9 Power Rankings: Packers, Bears and Steelers dominate on the air
- by admin
New York’s sports media has been buzzing with the NFL’s Week 9 slate.
So we thought we’d put together a Power Rankings for you, based on how you’d like to see the slate shake out.
The Power Rankings are in no particular order.
Chicago Bears (6-0) Last week: 1 We’ve seen the Bears go 7-0 in the last 10 weeks, so they’ve got plenty of time to put together some of the best games of the season.
And, if the Bears keep going, they could easily become the first undefeated team since the Packers did it in 2002.
The biggest question mark this week is whether quarterback Mitch Trubisky (shoulder) can start Week 10, and the Bears have the talent to handle that challenge.
But, the offense and defense will be much improved after last week, and Chicago’s record in the NFC North will remain solid.
Pittsburgh Steelers (5-1) Last Thursday: 2 Pittsburgh’s offense has been among the league’s best for most of the year, but its defense has been solid, too.
That should continue in Week 10.
And while the Steelers haven’t scored a touchdown this season, they have allowed only one rushing touchdown, and Pittsburgh has allowed a league-high six rushing touchdowns this season.
Cleveland Browns (5.5-2) Last Week: 4 The Browns haven’t been able to put up big scoring numbers lately, but they did win a close game against the Packers on Thursday.
That’s because quarterback Johnny Manziel (knee) is likely to be sidelined again this week.
But the defense should be a lot better than it was in Week 9, and Cleveland could very well be one of the NFLs best offenses in Week 11.
Seattle Seahawks (5) Last Sunday: 2 The Seahawks have scored just 17 points in the first three games of this season — and that came against the Cowboys on Sunday.
The defense will have to be better than that if the Seahawks are going to win this game, but it’s not as if they’re the only ones who need help.
San Francisco 49ers (4.5) Posted 2-1 record since Week 9: 4 While San Francisco hasn’t been the same team that it was a week ago, the team is coming off a win over the Rams, which should help the offense as the 49ers try to improve on a 4-13 start.
Detroit Lions (4) Last Monday: 5 After getting burned by the Vikings last week in Minnesota, the Lions are starting to look like the team we saw last season.
The Lions should be more dangerous this week, but a tough divisional schedule could force them to try to do some things they haven’t done since the playoffs began.
New York Giants (3.5)-3) Posted 1-1 season: 5 The Giants are looking like a team that can win this season’s division, and if they do, they might have a good chance of getting to the Super Bowl.
But there’s a lot of uncertainty in New York right now, and we won’t know until the season opener.
Indianapolis Colts (2) Posted 0-1: 5 There’s some reason to believe the Colts might be in the AFC South this season after their Week 1 loss to the Browns.
But it’s hard to see them getting there, and their record since then is probably better than their record from a week or two ago.
Dallas Cowboys (1) Posted 3-2: 6 Dallas’ offense is going to be pretty good this week because the Cowboys are one of a handful of teams in the league that can run the ball.
But they’ve had to do a little bit of that lately, as they’ve allowed the third-most yards in the NFL.
Atlanta Falcons (1.5-) Posted 2.5: 6 Atlanta has won three straight, but the defense has to be more impressive to have the Falcons at home this week after facing the Seahawks last week.
Miami Dolphins (1-) Posted 1.5:-2: 11 Miami’s defense has looked good, but this offense could struggle with the bye.
Washington Redskins (1)-0: 9 After getting blown out by the Cowboys last week (but not because they didn’t throw the ball), Washington’s offense is getting ready for the playoffs.
But its still a long way from the way things were in Week 1.
